The Freshman Head Cheer Coach serves as the leader of the Freshman Cheer Program to assist participating student-athletes in achieving a high level of skills, an appreciation for the value of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem and a high level of academic achievement.
Performance responsibilities:
- Oversee the Freshman Cheer Program.
- Train and develop student-athletes to cheer and uplift crowd.
- Execute an effective training program.
- Motivate student-athletes to succeed in school, on the court, as well as preparing students for success after high school.
- Promote and foster positive attitudes, good sportsmanship, and academic excellence, and skill development.
- Plan and coordinate practice sessions.
- Instruct and guide student-athletes to lead them to the formulation and enhancement of moral values, pride of accomplishment, self-confidence, and individual and team success.
- Build relationships with and have a willingness to coach beginners and advanced student-athletes.
- Cooperate in a timely manner, with School Athletic Director and the District Athletic Department, in regard to information that might be required periodically.
- Check the status of academic eligibility for all prospective student-athletes.
- Meet all requirements set forth by the District Board of Education, District Athletic Department, the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), and The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) in regard to the mandated Coaches Tool Chest (CTC) Training/Certification and the ODE Pupil Activity Permit (PAP).
- Recognize the need to be aware of and implement all applicable administrative policies set forth by the District Board of Education, Superintendents of Schools, School Principals, Conference Leagues, and OHSAA.
- Model the behavior expected of our student-athletes including timeliness to practices and games, being positive and enthusiastic, being respectful, and practicing constructive criticism while upholding the disciplines of the program.
- Participate in clinics and other available programs to improve coaching performance.
- participate in School Events (i.e., Awards Night, Pep Assemblies, Athletic Boosters, etc.)
- Is competent techniques of the sport.
- Is well-versed and knowledgeable in matters pertaining to the sport as well as look at ways to constantly improve knowledge and coaching techniques.
- Ensure that team is well-prepared.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.
Skills/Essential Functions:
- Fundraising experience
- Ability to serve as a positive role model.
- Demonstrated knowledge of sport.
- Ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, Parents, Officials, Fans
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
Training/Certifications:
- Ohio Secondary Teaching Certificate preferred.
- Successful participation in a similar activity in high school and or college.
- Evidence of successful experience at the high school or college level required.
- Provide a satisfactory result on a County Police records Check, State BCII Fingerprint Check, and FBI Background Check.
- Possess an Ohio Department of Education Pupil Activity Permit.
- Provide proof of completion of Coaches Tool Chest Training/Certification.
Contract Provisions:
TYPE OF CONTRACT: Supplemental Annual Limited
SALARY: Per Schedule E of current C.F.T. Labor Agreement
