Position Overview

Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) seeks dedicated and passionate Career Technical Teachers for our high school programs in Firefighting and Electrician. These positions serve students in grades 9-12, providing hands-on, industry-relevant instruction that prepares students for successful careers in these fields. Our CTE Teachers play a vital role in fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment, where students are encouraged to explore their interests and develop practical skills.

We are looking for individuals who bring recent industry experience and a commitment to mentoring students from diverse backgrounds. The ideal candidates will embrace the CPS mission of ensuring equitable access to high-quality education and demonstrate a genuine desire to inspire and guide the next generation of skilled professionals.

 

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning in Firefighting and Power systems.
  • Create and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive academic atmosphere conducive to learning and student safety.
  • Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
  • Assess changing curricular needs and develop improvement plans in alignment with industry standards and best practices.
  • Maintain effective records of student performance, attendance, and progress toward learning goals.

 

  • Utilize technology and industry tools to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other professionals to build strong partnerships and support student success.
  • Collaborate with peers and school leaders to enhance instructional environments and contribute to curriculum development.
  • Foster relationships with local businesses and community organizations to create internship and job placement opportunities for students.
  • Encourage students to think independently and express original ideas, promoting creativity and critical thinking.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned that may not directly relate to subject areas but support the overall mission of the school.

Qualifications

  • Recent industry experience in Firefighting or Power systems is required.
  • Previous teaching experience is preferred but not mandatory; applicants without formal teaching credentials are encouraged to apply if they possess significant industry expertise.
  • Credentials- A valid Ohio Career Technical License or eligibility to apply for a Supplemental License in the respective content area
  • Ability to connect with and inspire urban students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, families, and the community.
  • Competence in integrating technology into instruction and learning activities.
  • Commitment to professional development and continuous improvement in teaching practices.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and dedicated to the growth and development of young people.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to serving an urban student demographic and supporting their academic achievement.

Contract, Salary, and Benefits

  • Contract Provisions: 191 days Limited Contract
  • The Career Technical Teacher position is a full-time, exempt role.
  • We offer a competitive salary and an excellent healthcare and retirement benefits package as per the Cincinnati Federation of Teachers (CFT) agreement.
